The Welsh Government launched their loneliness strategy today. In response, our Director of Campaigns, Policy and Research, Robin Hewings said:

“This strategy is an important first step in tackling loneliness in Wales, with policies across transport, health, social care and communities.

A new £1.4 million fund will further drive our understanding of what can be done. It will support community organisations to deliver and test out, or scale up, innovative approaches.

We welcome the strategy’s recognition that long-term action is needed in order to address loneliness across government. We also welcome the commitment to share learning, assess the impact of all new policy on loneliness, and establish a cross-government group to oversee implementation and find new opportunities of tackling loneliness.

This strategy creates real opportunities to address one of the major social issues of our time. The Campaign to End Loneliness will support the Welsh Government to make sure these commitments make a difference to the people of Wales.”
