Watch highlights from the conference

The conference was designed to celebrate the work of our Learning Network, as well as be an opportunity for members to rejuvenate and reconnect with what else is going on across the UK. The agenda, session descriptions and delegate list can be downloaded here.

Keynote presentation: Loneliness across the life-course

Watch Professor Christina Victor, from Brunel University, talk about how stereotypes about older age influence our risk of experiencing loneliness in later life and how loneliness can change depending on the season. Presentation slides are available here.

Loneliness Challenges: what do older people say?

When we experience loneliness, it will be caused by a range of reasons, personal experiences and circumstances. At our conference, we heard from four older people who talked about the way loneliness can be influenced by living in a rural or urban area, becoming a carer and growing older as an LGBT person.

Listen to their stories:

We heard from four charity experts working with older people, including:

  • Ann Osborn, Rural Coffee Caravan Information Project
  • Alex Smith, North London Cares
  • Stacey Halls, Opening Doors London
  • Sally Chandler, Hillingdon Carers
